With over 17 years of experience as a Naturopathic Medical Doctor I have had the pleasure of working with a diverse patient population. My passion remains women's health care, particularly Functional Neuro-Endocrinology (the study and treatment of brain chemistry and hormones complex interactions) but in the past 3 years with our location in Kings Beach, California on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe I have become, and thoroughly enjoy being, a Family Practitioner.
I see and treat families for everything health related - from cough/cold/flu, to asthma, eczema, food allergies, seasonal allergies, sports injuries, annual exams including women's gynecological exams and well-baby check ups and anything else our community needs to see a Doctor for. As a Naturopathic Doctor, I have a wellness tool box the size of California to choose from - homeopathy, western herbal medicines, Chinese herbal formulas, Ayruvedic herbal formula's, nutritional supplements, hydrotherapy (using water applications to heal), and IV therapy - all the alternative, complimentary and integrative therapies available - as well as prescription medications if absolutely needed.
As a Naturopathic Doctor, I believe that personalized preventative care is of the utmost importance in helping people achieve their health goals. With a background in massage therapy, Physical Therapy and a Medical Technologist, my education and experience in the healthcare field has enabled me to incorporate a patient-centered approach to medicine that is tailored to the unique needs of those who seek my counsel.
Because beliefs, attitudes and motivations can all play a major role in overall wellness, I examine and include the physical, mental and emotional aspects of all of our patients in order to make a more holistic and accurate diagnosis. My devotion to good health and healthy nutrition is the basis and primary focus of our practice. We value the trust and confidence of our patients with whom we work in partnership for better health.
My family and I love living here in Kings Beach and I look forward to serving your health care needs for many years to come while practicing and staying true to my Naturopathic Roots and Naturopathic Philosophy.
Naturopathic Medical Doctors (ND's or NMD's) are licensed primary-care doctors and are similar to conventional doctors in that both types of doctors study clinical and laboratory diagnosis, diagnose disease, perform minor surgery and can, if needed, prescribe drugs.
The practice of Naturopathic Medicine emerges from six underlying principles of healing:
1. First Do No Harm - Naturopathic Medicine uses and promotes therapies that are safe and effective.
2. The Healing Power of Nature - The doctor's role is to facilitate the body's inherent ablity to restore health.
3. Treat the Cause - The origin of dis-ease must be treated, not just the symptoms
4. Treat the Whole Person - Consider mulitple factors in health and dis-ease and individualize the treatment
5. Doctor as Teacher - Educate and empower the patient ot take responsibility for their own health.
6. Prevention is the best cure.
We take the education of patients seriously. We believe what Benedict Lust, the father of Naturopathy, once said:
"It is my responsibility as a Naturopath to sufficiently educate my patients so as they no longer require my services."
As well as our office motto -
"There is nothing the Doctor can do that will overcome what the Patient will not."
We understand the importance of your wellness. As a result, each of us at NaturaMed Natural Family Medicine will continuously commit ourselves to meeting and exceeding your expectations..

Mark is an avid sportsman and outdoors man. He has been a ski instructor for most of his adult life and has also taught many other sports including tennis, racquetball, & sport specific exercise classes. He was a Boy Scout and grew up hunting and fishing with his dad and brother's in Michigan and skiing all over the country and Europe with them too. Living in Tahoe is his dream come true.
After completing his Master of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology in 1994, Mark went on to work in corporate wellness where he acquired a wealth of experience in corporate wellness but discovered that this was not where his passion was. After taking a sabbatical in 1999 to raft the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon for a month, he returned and began working in his wife's Naturopathic Medical Office and discovered there the power of nutrition to heal. Since 1999, he has devoted his life and continuing education to nutritional healing on all levels.
Mark loves working with people to help them understand their individual and unique nutritional needs to achieve health on every level.
What do we mean by "Clinical, Therapeutic and Sports Nutrition"?
Clinical Nutrition is the customization of a nutritional plan for the individual - no matter what the patient wants to achieve with his or her health - what, how, and when we eat is the foundation for health. Using BIA (Bio-electric impedance analysis) technology, I can customize a program to fit everyone's individual needs to achieve their health goals.
Therapeutic Nutrition is the use of specific nutritional guidelines and nutriceutical formula's to bring 'dis-ease' back to health. There are specific protocols, each customizable within researched guidelines, for lowering cholesterol, reversing Type II diabetes, reversing insulin resistance (the precursor to diabetes), managing arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, digestive disorders and other chronic illnesses.
Sports Nutrition is the use of customized individual protocols to improve sports performance at any age and any level of competition. Long distance runners, triathletes, cross-country and skate skiers all need specific support and that is different from sprinters, downhill ski/snowboard racers, etc. Not just for the "competitive" athlete - Sports nutrition can benefit even the 'weekend warrior'. By knowing your individual needs as they relate to maintaining your muscle mass and reserve, performance can be improved at all levels.

Naturopathic medicine blends centuries-old natural, non-toxic therapies with current advances in the study of health and human systems, covering all aspects of family health from prenatal to geriatric care.
We believe that the source of illness is not just represented by the presentation of a problem, but often has its roots in the way we live, what we eat and how we interact with our environment. We seek the cause of disease and don't just focus on its most apparent manifestations.
Naturopathic Medicine is based on the belief that the human body has an innate healing ability. Naturopathic doctors (NDs), also sometimes called Naturopaths, teach their patients to use diet, exercise, lifestyle changes and cutting edge natural therapies to enhance their bodies’ ability to ward off and combat disease.
Therapies utilized with each patient are individualized. Some patients come seeking a supplement or medication that will treat their symptoms, others come with questions about how to prevent certain health conditions, and still others desire an understanding of how their condition began and what efforts they can take to undo the pathology that the body has already adapted to.
Naturopathic doctors craft comprehensive treatment plans that blend the best of modern medical science and traditional natural medical approaches to not only treat disease, but to also restore health.
